Strawberry Alarm Clock recorded a version of The Seeds’ 1960s classic “Mr. Farmer” in 2012. The original plan was for the reconvened SAC to record the song for a Sky Saxon tribute CD, but plans fell through and that tribute does not seem to have ever made it to release.
Strawberry Alarm Clock began work on “Mr. Farmer” in January 2010, anticipating the proposed release date of the Sky Saxon CD in June of that year. As it is, it became the leadoff track for the band’s 2012 album Wake Up Where You Are.
To the best of my knowledge, “Mr. Farmer” was the first new Strawberry Alarm Clock recording since 1995’s “Love Story”.
“Mr. Farmer” was the first track off of the Seeds’ seminal second album, A Web Of Sound from 1966, and is a song that Sky Saxon loved performing until his death in July 2009. The song was chosen for Strawberry Alarm Clock’s behalf by the compilers of the Sky Saxon project.
